Heartbroken. That's what you were. But really, did you seriously expect for Humanities Strongest Solider to accept your love? For Gods sake, every single woman was trailing after him like a lost puppy! Why would he choose you, a Squad leader, over those women with large breasts and broad hips. What was so special about you? Just a girl with big hopes and dreams, so stupid enough to think that a man like him would actually love you.

But for some reason, you just couldn't let go. You still loved him with every ounce of your heart.

And you still had the audacity to wait for him. To turn down all the men in town who asked you out on some sort of date. You still had your head in the clouds, waiting for him to accept your love the way you had accepted him despite all his flaws.

How could you give up though? On the one man who you found interesting enough to pay attention to? His dark raven hair that fell so perfectly on his features, his grey eyes that could express little to no emotion, but at the same time every single feeling that was possible. His expressionless face that made him seem all the more mysterious.

How could you not want to know him?

How could you deny your feelings for him when he was so close?

How can you stop yourself?

How awkward. Sitting right beside him at the Squad Leader table as Hanji babbled on about titans. Trying not to touch him when before you could so easily brush arms or thighs. Now, you were sitting stiffly, keeping yourself tense and as far away from him as possible without seeming too obvious.

"(f/n)? Are you alright?" Hanji asked. You noticed you were intensely staring down at the table. You looked back up and hummed in acknowledgement. "I said, are you okay? You're acting strangely quiet." She said. Your lips parted as you stuttered for an answer. You saw Levi staring at you expectantly from the corner of your eye. You turned to meet his gaze, only finding it harder to speak.

Your gaze darted from Levi to Hanji. "Nothing." You said, standing up. "I'm just tired." You mumbled.

"Are you leaving already?" Hanji asked, a worried expression drifting over her features.

You glanced over at Levi, his face as stoic as ever. You ran a hand through your hair. "Excuse me." You mumbled, quickly making your way to the door, ignoring the stares that burned into the back of your neck.

My head is saying "Fool forget him!"
My heart is saying "Don't let go!"

But what side should you listen to? The one that said to move on and find someone better, or the one that said to not loose hope and to keep holding on. They were both sensible. Weren't they? Letting go would open your mind up to new things. Holding on would give him a chance to return the feelings.

What were you supposed to do?

A sigh escaped your lips as you came to a solution.

Why not keep holding on? It was worth a shot wasn't it? And at the same time, you knew deep in your heart you couldn't let go. You smiled to yourself and looked down at the papers on your desk. With a deep breath, you picked up your pen and began filling out the work. A knock sounded at the door, sharp and firm. "Who is it?" You called in a light tone.

"It's me."

Your eyes widened at the familiar voice. It was him.

Shit, he already knew you were here. Nowhere to hide. "Come in." You said in a more serious tone. The doorknob turned and he stepped in, closing the door behind him. He crossed his arms over his chest and leaned against the wall.

"Why'd you leave?" He asked, an unnatural softness to his voice.

You shrugged and looked down at your papers. "I was tired." You murmured.

"You're a horrible liar."

"I'm a great liar."

"That was a lie."

"What're you doing here?" You asked, looking back up and slamming your pen down on the table. Your raised your eyebrows expectantly as you waited for a response.

He stared at you intently, as if trying to figure you out. "Is all this about last night?" He mumbled.

You rolled your eyes and looked back down at your paperwork. "Of course not."

"Don't lie to me. Tell me the truth." Levi said. He uncrossed his arms and walked towards you, standing before the desk. He set his hands on the surface, and slightly leaned forward.

You flicked your eyes up to meet his for a moment before looking back down. Sighing, you crossed your arms and pressed your back against the chair, pulling away from him. "Yes. No. I don't know, maybe!" You said, frustration getting to your head as your threw your hands up in defense and stood, walking away from him.

"Is this really bothering you? It was a simple 'no', and you're taking it too far." He said, following you with his arms draped across his chest.

You let out a bitter laugh. "You're not a girl, you don't understand. It's hard to be rejected when you know deep down inside that you can't let go no matter what. That the only man who's peaked your interest flat out says 'no' when you've basically poured your heart out to him, giving him all your love when he pushes it aside-"

"Stop." He said, resting a hand on your shoulder and turning you to face him. You gave him the hardest glare you could muster. His eyebrow twitched up in amusement. "I was just trying to protect you."

"Mhm, protect me by hurting me. Real smart of you, Captain." You said, sarcasm sliding off your words.

"Shut up for a second, will you?" He said, shaking lightly. He placed his other hand on your waist, causing you to stiffen up.

"And now you're sending mixed messages, just great Levi-"

"I do find you interesting. I don't want to grow attached to you, just for one of us to die. I don't want you to get hurt. I care about you enough to keep myself away from you in order to keep you safe."

You blinked in confusion. "You..."

"Surprising?" He asked.

You took a deep breath. "A little." You said, ignoring his hand that was sliding to the small of your back.

He smirked and suddenly pulled you forward, pressing his lips against yours. It wasn't necessarily a rough kiss, more of a soothing one. A reassuring one. Your lips fit together like puzzle pieces, moved perfectly in sync.

Pulling away, he inspected your reaction. Your eyelids fluttered open to reveal your wide (e/c) orbs. He chuckled and brushed a strand of hair away from your face. "I now see, that I'm hurting you more by being away rather than being with you. So... why not change that?" He asked, tucking it behind your ear.

You looked off to the side, acting as if you were debating what to say. You finally brought your gaze back to his, a soft smile adorning your lips. "Okay."
